Entering an Address
Use
the Arrow Key to select 'Address / Intersection' and press 'Enter'.
We'll use the address below to illustrate the steps necessary for a specific Address:
1234 North Central Expressway
Dallas, Texas
*Entering an Intersection uses steps similar to that of entering a Street Address.
Highlight 'Street Address' and press the 'Enter' button.
A Street Address
can be entered in two ways:
- Yes, you know the city name
- No, you don't know the city name
We'll assume, for now, that you do know the city name of your address. Highlight 'Yes' and press 'Enter'.
This 'QuickSpell'
screen allows you to use the Arrow key to efficiently select and spell the city
name. In the center of the screen there is a circle with arrows that represent the
arrows on the 8-Way Arrow key. Notice that the top three arrows point to a corresponding
blue block of letters.
Since 'Dallas'
is our sample city name, we'll start by highlighting the letter 'D'. Push the diagonal
portion of the Arrow Key that corresponds to the desired letter block. The cursor
will jump to the default letter 'E' as it is in the center. Press the left arrow
to highlight 'D' and press 'Enter'. It will be listed at the bottom as the first
letter of the city name.
The Hertz NeverLost
navigation system automatically filters the letters to show only the selections
that begin with the chosen letters. Continue this process to select 'A', then 'L',
and so on until only 'Dallas' remains.
In this example,
the possible matches were narrowed to six and listed alphabetically. Use the arrow
key to highlight 'Dallas, TX' and press 'Enter'.
The same process
is used to spell the street name. A helpful tip is to spell the street's root or
base name first. In this case, the full street name is 'North Central Expressway'.
The root or base name is 'Central Expressway' and should be entered first.
Once 'Central'
is entered, the possible matches are narrowed to seven. Use the arrow key to highlight
'N Central Expy' and press 'Enter'.
Now it is time
to enter the address number. The same speller concept applies to entering a number.
Highlight 'Done' when complete and press 'Enter'.
Next you will select
a routing method. The most popular selection is 'Shortest Time'. This will use the
combination of streets that minimizes the drive time to your destination.
Driving The Route
The Hertz NeverLost
navigation system will highlight the prescribed route in bright Pink. The system
will announce 'Please proceed to the highlighted route'. The vehicle is represented
by the yellow arrow in the center of the screen. We will enter the highlighted route
by turning right. Soon after entering the route we can expect a U-turn. The distance
to your next turn (0.1mi) is shown at the bottom left corner (next to your current
direction/heading). Total trip distance (8.9mi) is shown in the bottom right corner
of the screen.
*It is important to note that the default map 1/8th mile(default) through 4 mile scales orient the map so the route and vehicle heading is always in front of and ahead of you. Once you make a turn, the map pivots to orient you moving 'forward' along the route.
**For the 10-mile and 20-mile scales the map is oriented to show north at the top of the screen, regardless of your actual heading. These scales are best used to preview large segments of a route, as opposed to street level driving.
To zoom out, press the plus button (+).
To zoom in, press the minus button (-).
*You can also Pan the map in any direction by pressing the Arrow key. Press cancel to return the screen to your actual position on the map.
As you approach
a turn, the Hertz NeverLost navigation system will 'preview' the maneuver by displaying
a bold 3-D turn icon. This preview tells us we'll make a U-turn (as mentioned above),
followed by entering a freeway onramp.
This
is a typical route map. Across the bottom of the screen is some useful information.
From left to right:
- Current heading or direction (W for West)
- Distance to next turn (0.1mi)
- Estimated trip time (00:18)
- Direction to destination (diagonal red arrow)
- Distance to destination (10mi)
Press the 'View'
button to see the Maneuver List. This will detail when and where to expect turns
along the route. Press the View button again or Cancel to return to the normal route
map.
As you approach your destination, the Hertz NeverLost navigation system will show and tell you its approximation "Destination ahead on the right" and "You have arrived".
